Living by Faith

September 27, 2006
Revised: May 12, 2009, Tuesday
Quatrains in Iambic pentameter with an ABAB rhyme scheme

Frightening darkness envelopes the sky,
Freezing wind penetrates my fragile bone,
The uphill walk makes me feel like I’d die;
A long journey no one has ever known.

Unseen future lies not that far ahead,
The vision of hope gives each morning hue,
As my frail knees stoop down for daily bread,
Undaunted faith gives me strength anew.

Pressing on patiently toward the goal,
With courage that comes from the Holy word,
With divine wisdom seek the destined role,
And live up to it with fear of the Lord.

Valiant pilgrim on this transient journey,
Watching every step toward heaven’s seat,
Clinging on scroll and creed mightily,
As the light and the lamp unto my feet.

Humble obedience marks true servant hood,
Bringing us exceeding joy as we raise,
An endless stream of spiritual food;
The sweetest aroma of grateful praise.
