Here’s the third installment to my friendship poems series from a precious Hallmark greeting card:
Many friends come and go
throughout our lives.
Often those friendships
are based on convenience-
because we live next door,
go to school together,
or share a hobby.
Friendships that endure
in spite of hardships
or changes in our lives
are rare and precious.
Building a lasting friendship
takes work and commitment,
but for us it’s been worth
all the time, energy, and effort
we’ve given each other.
We’ve grown comfortable
in each other’s company
and known each other so well
that we feel safe
sharing thoughts and feelings,
exposing our weaknesses
and secret fears,
or turning to each other for help.
New friends only see
the surfaces of our lives.
I use the word “friend”
to describe many people,
but you are really more than that…
You are a part of my life,
my memories,
and my outlook.
You will always be
Important to me.
