A Sculptor’s Song [The Sculptor to his Beloved]

If I could pick up every word that can be sought,
Carefully chisel them into a thought,
And each thought into a soul-carved discourse,
Words would be few to make perfect contours.

My soul dictates what my mind should seek,
And tells me what my lips should speak,
But it is the same that holds me up in silence,
Whenever I try to bare my heart out in your presence.

I can hew words to speak in sophistry,
In echoing redundant, poetic flattery,
I search for words but my eyes are covered,
Armed with a chisel but without a hammer.

Let me come to you as close as I can be,
Look into my eyes and somehow you will see,
All that my heart wishes to say;
The love much too big for words to convey.

More than a lifetime my love shall last,
Even in tempest, it shall remain steadfast,
When all that you have seems to ebb away,
Hold my hand, dear, my love will stay.

“More than a lifetime”, my heart cries out,
Much stronger than anything you’ve heard about,
When life’s imperfections seem to pull you aside,
My love will remain whatever betides.

Life is not life at all apart from you,
Destiny is nothing if I will not share it with you,
Dream and aspiration gives reason for living,
But without you, it would lose all its meaning.

Much longer love grows as each sunrise passes,
Much stronger the longing shows as each sunset crosses,
Much deeper than what the eyes consider beauty,
I make a vow of love that lasts for eternity.
