Sense of Urgency

I was watching my favorite program on TV;
quite intently or even intimately.
I was trying to absorb the story
of an age old epic drama,
tackling political issues of relevance
that continue to plague even modern societies.
The commercial break broke my concentration,
I felt hungry.
It was strange though.
So, I opened the refrigerator
and looked for something to eat.
I took out two jumbo hot dogs and a pork sausage,
then went back in front of the TV.
Suddenly, I thought, “How much is this hot dog I’m eating?”
“What if I no longer have the money
to buy food stuffs like these,
or pay for the things that I need?”
Oh, what a scary thought!
I felt strange like somebody’s poking me;
like somebody’s pushing me off my wheel chair.
It is burning; consuming.
It is a sense of urgency;
a case for immediate response!
You can accomplish nothing,
unless you start looking at your future
with a sense of urgency.
Otherwise, you can say goodbye to your hot dogs and TV
and start living by the sidewalk.
Faith won’t make you rich,
but it will make you work
and on the fruits of your labor you shall live.
If you’ll be faithful then you’ll become rich!
Time is fleeting like a passing shadow.
Once it has passed you by, there’s no way you can run after it;
neither will it return to you.
This isn’t a matter of becoming a slave of time;
rather, a matter of making good use of it.
Draw strength and drive from that sense of urgency
then, face the uncertain future with faith.
